Projects
WRP seeks to ensure that safe, clean water is available for domestic supply, ceremonial use, ranching, agriculture, and wildlife. Three types of projects support this goal:
- Public Water Supply projects maintain and protect
Hopi groundwater resources.
- Pollution projects enhance or improve water quality by addressing pollution at its source.
- Restoration projects restore ecological function and biological diversity to Hopi streams, springs, wetlands and ponds.
WRP secures funding and technical assistance from a variety of organizations and Federal agencies to accomplish project quality performance. These agencies include but are not limited to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, Bureau of Reclamation, Bureau of Indian Affairs, U.S. Geological Survey, and the Indian Health Service.
The Hopi Tribe is presently seeking program authorization from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency for approval of Water Quality Standards adopted by the Hopi Tribe in 1997. The Agency decision to approve Treatment-As-State requirements for the Hopi Tribe’s application is pending.
