Moenkopi Urban Runoff
This project is intended to prevent pollutants contained in urban runoff from washing downstream to Moenkopi Village farm fields. Erosion control measures and landscape design will be used to intercept and attenuate pollutants from urban runoff near their source. Restoration treatments will include installation of erosion control structures (e.g. straw bales), removal of invasive nonnative trees (e.g. tamarisk) and planting native vegetation (e.g. cottonwoods, willows) in filter strips and swales. This project is funded by a Clean Water Act Section 319 grant from U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.
This project will also aid in the ongoing clean up of the leaking underground storage tank site and will enhance the Moenkopi Economic Development Zone to prevent new sources of nonpoint source pollution and remediate existing pollution.
